Anna Meloto-Wilk, co-founder of Philippine beauty brand Human Nature, was named Beauty Industry Woman of the Year by Cosmetics Design, a London-based beauty industry publication.
Human Nature: a beauty brand with heart
Anna Meloto-Wilk and Camille Meloto created Human Nature in 2008. They wanted to create a beauty brand that affordable, natural, eco-friendly and ethically-made. All of Human Nature products are made from local ingredients. Today, many of their products are cult favorites, such as their multi-purpose sunflower oil, 100% natural lip balms and hydrating lipsticks, and gentle but effective shampoos and conditioners. Many Filipinos gush about the quality they get for their price. “They’re just like the imported brands I used before, but are less than P100! I love them!”
Human Nature also employ hundreds of Gawad Kalinga residents and residents of other poor communities in roles from accounting to manufacturing to warehousing and merchandising. Last year, the local beauty brand also took home the Sustainability Pioneer Award for its social entrepreneurship in Asia.
Paris-based specialist research, consulting, and training firm Ecovia presented the award to Anna Meloto-Wilk during the Sustainable Beauty Awards ceremonies. The founder and president of Ecovia Intelligence, Amarjit Sahota, commended her and the Human Nature team for creating certified natural cosmetics from locally-sourced ingredients and providing employment for the poor.
Earlier in the year, Human Nature became the first Asian brand to receive a Sustainable Beauty Award. Anna Meloto-Wilk said, “Our dream is to unlock the potent qualities of the best of the Philippines’ natural flora and turn them into world-class sustainable products.”
