Five makeup techniques to master while in Covid-19 lockdown

Categories : Makeup

Like us, for sure you’re also going au naturel and haven’t applied makeup in a while. While all of us are locked up at home, let’s put that free time into good use to keep yourself distracted (and stunning!). Now’s the perfect time to master these makeup techniques so you can glam up for those Zoom video calls:

1. Practice the ‘No-Makeup Make up Look‘.

Look pretty for your next Zoom meetings, your wine nights with the ladies, or your #QuarantineDiaries IG stories.

How: Focus more on skincare rather than make-up, as this look conceals imperfections and highlights features in a subtle manner. Prep with a moisturizer, conceal spots and go light on the coverage. We suggest a BB Cream/tinted sunblock as opposed to a heavy foundation. Make your skill look natural and extra dewy with subtle pops of highlights on your cheekbones. Then fake your flush with a cream blush: dab it to apples of your cheeks and spread it to the temples. For the eyebrows, just brush it a bit and apply clear brow gel. If sparse spots are areas of concern, you can also put some eyebrow powder or pencil. Curl your lashes and apply mascara. Finish your look off with a natural-colored lip tint.

2. Apply the perfect red lip.

The red lip is makeup’s LBD. Effortlessly classy and undeniably powerful, sporting a red lip can be quite intimidating to some, especially to those who are not used to applying bold shades.

To find the perfect red that suits you, check your skin tone: warm reds pairs well with warm skin, while blue-toned reds pairs well with cool undertones. In terms of formulas, mattes are perfect as they are highly pigmented, cream lipsticks are fairly pigmented and more hydrating compared to matte, and liquid lipsticks tend to last all day.

How: Don’t forget to exfoliate first because sporting a scarlet pout means that you’re drawing attention to your lips, then apply lip balm to lock in moisture. You may also line your lips to avoid smudges—just make sure that the shade of the liner matches the lipstick’s. Apply, blot with a tissue, and add another layer for a more pigmented look. Don’t forget to bring your red lipstick with you once they lift the ECQ.

3. Master the “Faux Filter Makeup” Look

We’ve been seeing the faux freckled look among the Hollywood’s elite like Bella Hadid and local celebs like Elisse Josonn. If you’re feeling extra, skip the filter and put on faux freckles.

How: Apply make-up like how you normally would, choose a light brown eyebrow marker or pencil, and dot away. Finish it off with dabbing cheek tint and bronzer.

4. Maintain your brows.

This is a problem all of us are facing right now. With the lockdown, nobody’s spared from the luxury of visiting our go-to eyebrow lady and having that regular brow threading and tint sesh. We and our brows are on our own, ladies.

How: The easy method is to put brow makeup in your preferred shape, then tweeze or shave the stray hairs around them.  It’s advisable to only pluck every three days as plucking too much can stop them from growing back.

5. Contour and highlight!

Gone were the days when we drastically change our face shape with massive contouring and highlighting. Now, it’s all about giving our face shape depth and dimension.

How: Blend cream highlighter on your skin, apply foundation, then highlight and contour. A tip for choosing a product: use something that’s three shades darker your natural skin color. Another tip is to follow the shadows of your face shape, then put additional highlighter if needed.
