No gym required: How to stay fit during the enhanced community quarantine

Categories : Wellness

Just because your go-to gyms are closed doesn’t mean you’ll skip that much-needed workout. I mean, we get you, this lockdown also had us lounging around the whole day, eating our quarantine snacks whilst swooning over Park Sae-Ro-Yi of Itaewon Class and binging on the latest season of Money Heist.

Now that the extended lockdown has been announced, we IG-stalked some of our favorite local celebs and took down notes on how to stay fit during the ECQ and avoid the #Quarantine15:

1. Work out early in the morning

We’re also struggling with waking up early in the morning—the lockdown surely messed up our body clock. No excuses here, just take Solenn Heussaff-Bolzico as an example: postpartum isn’t going to stop her as she’s already showing us how to do some quick home workouts. Her routine is pretty chill, you can even fit it in your schedule before working from home.

2.  Calm your mind and ease lockdown-induced anxiety with yoga

Because namaste home for at least another two more weeks. In the midst of a lockdown, accessing your inner self is a tool for keeping sane. It’s the perfect time to practice yoga. A plus: it helps in boosting the immunity and doesn’t need that much home space.

3.  Watch online videos and tone it up!

Erich Gonzales shows us how to work out from home and encourages us to join her while she works out. There are also free and paid online classes you can participate in if you want that extra motivation.

4. Give in to a #HomeLockdownChallenge

Resident hot mama Ina Feleo encourages everyone to join in the Lockdown Challenge. If you’re still confused on where and how to start, you could follow Ina’s Instagram posts and stories or check Pinterest for sets that can work for your fitness goals. There is also a range of mobile apps that will guide you through different at-home workouts – just visit AppStore or Google Play and search for fitness apps.

5. Work on your glutes and don’t skip leg day

We all heard your “After this lockdown, I’m going to the beach” resolutions. Let’s take Lovi Poe as a forever fitspiration and get that bikini body ready by working on your glutes and legs.

6. Follow celebrity trainers and fitness accounts on Instagram

Get workout tips and tricks from personal trainers (sans the A-list price!) responsible for the bodies of your celebrity fitspos.

7. Plank!

Abs coming through. Planking is actually perfect for those who want to burn calories fast and strengthen their core. Leave it to fitness enthusiast and actress Kris Bernal to show us how to crash the core with this 12-minute Plank Challenge. We tried it and trust us: it’s a lot harder than it looks.

8. Find a workout partner

In social distancing fashion, of course. Here’s Miss World Philippines Michelle Dee as she takes on Avengers actor Chris Hemsworth’s fitness challenge. Now, what’s better than motivating yourself by working out with your Hollywood crush?

If you want that extra motivation, you may also ask your friends to all work out at the same time. Just set up a Zoom conference call and work out together. It’s all about trying to find what works best for you.

9. Put on an outfit that will make you want to work out

Even though you’re not going to the gym to work out, fitness experts say that you’re more inclined to properly work out and be active when you’re wearing cute workout clothes. Consider them as a confidence booster, like our favorite Victoria’s Secret Angel Kelsey Merritt. Besides, take content for your Instagram stories or the workout didn’t really happen, right?

10. Have fun!

Don’t force yourself to do an intensive work out if you’re not feeling it! Hop in the TikTok trend, put those skills to good use, and go dance or record fitness challenges. Take inspiration from beauty queen Winwyn Marquez as she shows us how to stay fit and enjoy at the same time.
