Hair tips from celeb stylist Lourd Ramos

Hair styles likewise reflect one’s personality – they reflect you, your lifestyle, your demeanor, the way you look at life. That’s why leading hairstylist and Creations Salon owner Lourd Ramos takes the time to study his clients’ wishes and accommodate their choices if it will bring out their uniqueness.

It’s a different approach from the traditional service which simply resorts to tried-and-tested techniques. “I recreate beauty,” Ramos describes his philosophy. “Most salons might say ‘No’ to a client’s request, but for me it is always a ‘Yes.’ If the client wants a certain look, I meet them halfway. Aside from the facial shape, I consider what I call the client’s ‘status quo.’”

Ramos admits that he follows no rules and does not conform. He is his own individual and he wants the clients to be who they want to be. He always wants to serve the client and meet them half-way.

One major factor that does figure into his choice of cut is the client’s lifestyle. Is she the active, sporty type? Or is she a wonderful mother who chaperones her kids in their every adventure, from shopping to school? Or perhaps she is a no-nonsense executive type who has to bring in the numbers?

Because hairstyles can transform one’s look and bearing, Ramos sometimes plays image consultant for his clients, providing them feedback on how their new cut can affect their image and career. He begins this path to change by asking them, “Do you want to start on this, and develop this look?”

The preferred styles may be unique to each person, but all clients do have a common ground, and one that Ramos always considers: “It’s all about the fringe, the texture, and the length.”

And for those who prefer their comfort zones, three hairstyles remain classic, regardless of a person’s hair color, features, and flaws.

CLASSIC CUTS

Women with long hair can go with the Mermaid Waves which give a relaxed and bouncy feel with S-waves and no curls. Hair colours that go best with this style are beige blond or deep chocolate brown which provide depth and volume. Big hand cuffs and big earrings to spread the focal look in arms, neck, and ears best complement this cut.

On the other hand, the Voluminous Curls define the sexy and sophisticated look. It can be better achieved by giving a highlight and lowlight colour to emphasize depth and volume. One may inject a clip or tiara on the side, to make the curls look more composed.

Those who want to keep their hair straight and long can do a Bumped Ponytail to give an illusion of extra height.

Women who fancy short hair can go with the Pixie Structured Hair Cut, which is very clean and simple with straight lines. One-toned color with an abrupt shade will give a good impression. Ramos suggests complementing this with a big necklace and big earrings, keeping the balance and femininity.

THE COLOURS OF YOUR CROWN

The crowns are not all gold and hair is not all black in the fashion scene today. According to Ramos, colours are all about being Minimalist or Maximalist. Various spectrums of different colours are explored here: ash/ash colour, deep red/red/chocolate brown, or ice/ice blonde/strawberry blonde.

Creations Salon specializes in Slicing and Weaving techniques when it comes to hair colouring. Slicing blends two colours with two tones to give a hairstyle or haircut a different depth and volume. Example of slicing is mixing ash/ash beige and ash/ash brown that does not give any definite line but does create depth. For precision, one can go with super dark colours with chunky highlights.

Lourd shares one principle intended to make a more attractive look: “If we cut hair, we need to color it. ”His team then blends and colours depending on the haircut and outcome.

DAILY HAIR CARE

What good is a great hair style that gives you a fantastic look if you let pollution, neglect, or bad habits let it go to waste?

Taking care of one’s hair is not that difficult – it just takes patience and adherence to a daily regimen. Ramos gives four tips that will keep that new cut looking lovely:

First, shampoo everyday. The old myth about skipping shampoo should be forgotten. Bacteria is all around us and shampooing everyday will keep your hair healthy.

Second, invest in a good shampoo, conditioner and post-wash. Post-treatment care is as important as the actual hair treatment as it helps prolong hair condition and save money.

Third, do not wash the hair with hot water as the heat damages the skin, causing dandruff, hair fall, and loss of natural oil.

Finally, regularly consult with your hairstylist.

Your hair may be the first thing that people will notice about you as soon as you walk through that door. Revel in its beauty, appreciate its best quality, take good care of it, and watch as it lets your inner empress emerge.
