New Hair for the First Quarter

Damaged Hair Makeover with Red Salon

Categories : Salons

Runway looks lready predicted a mish mash of hairstyles from sleek to trussed up braids and up dos with dark to medium brown locks dominating light locks.

Fashion writer, Gabrielle R. Borromeo, submits herself to his 35 years of experience in styling celebrities and local belles. The toll of years of repetitive re-bonding and coloring have literally frizzed out her hair despite keratin treatments after each coloring

Red Salon creative director Vincent Rumbaoa to the rescue. He proposes metallic brown colors by Schwarzkopf to match autumn colors sans red hues to avoid a mousy look – the target is to achieve a sleeker shape and defined dark hues. Schwarzkopf ingredients were used because of the total care additives they were formulated with to nourish the hair. Schwarzkopf also straightens strands by bringing them down without the totally flat Japanese hairstyle effect.

The procedure began with Rumbaoa analyzing Gabrielle’s hair, the shape of her face, and the color of her eyes. He then washes out her blond locks with a lightening solution devoid of bleaching chemicals to protect her already fragile strands. After washing off the blondness and rinsing out the solution, the hair strands remain supple and the coloring procedure with Schwarzkopf began. A light brown hue with ash and a metallic sheen was applied and the lustrous effect of the coloring treatment began to revive her hair, transforming it to a healthy shine she did not have when she walked into the salon.

After this, the hair was sectioned into different segments; each segment was then straightened with a flat iron. To make the straightening effect permanent, a relaxing solution was applied and the tips of her hair were wound around foam curlers to avoid a Japanese straight effect. A natural inward wave was the desired effect for the edges of her hair to frame her face.

Right after, precision cutting was employed to Gabrielle’s now fabulous hair. Precision cutting means there is an exactness to the trimming method used. Sectioning is also an important step to know what area of the hair should be textured or what hair section should be tucked towards the scalp. This was done without the use of thinning scissors because of the fly-away effect thinning methods may give. Slicing of the hair wasn’t used as well as its outcome will be Korean styling, a look popular in the past years and from which trends are veering away from. Instead regular shears were used, and what was cut was only the layers inside rather than the outer part of the hair. Layered sections were created to keep the volume of the hair. In the end, a twist of color was added to magnify the transformation for a 2015 look – metallic color in a Vidal Sassoon style.

The total effect was an entirely new fashion writer who emerged from the private room for clients who want their procedure to be kept secret until they step out into the general grooming area of the salon. The metallic brown sheen of her relaxed hair gave her a sleeker profile that made her ocher eyes even fiercer.

The quarter welcomes a new hair color with a classic cut to match the 2015 runway looks courtesy of Rumbaoa’s creative styling. His skillful play of colors and cutting off the tips of her hair to achieve a frame around her jawline highlights her cheekbones and complements her thick brows.

Rumbaoa attended seminars at the Paris L’oreal Laboratory, the Las Vegas and Berlin Hair-world Convention, the London International Convention, and the Winnie Loo Hair-cutting and Coloring Seminars in Malaysia, and won the Hair Asia Hair-cutting Competition. He was assisted by Edison Guevarra and Gerald Tolentino, both Junior Stylists at the Red Salon.
