When friends-cum-business partners Dr. Anna Marie Nolido and Beena Go decided they wanted to put up their own spa and wellness center in Greenhills, they were very clear about one thing: the respective treatments would be given with great care in a luxurious setting where time seems to stand still. Any sense of so-called urgency that would want to speed things up would have to be left at the door. Like the nobility of old, each lady who comes in would be treated like a princess – she is to be pampered even as the salon amps up her prettiness factor.
The idea was birthed during the two women’s frequent trips to Singapore. The most popular aesthetic centers in the Lion City literally had customers lining up for hours just to get in; some salons even had to give out numbers. The future founders of Skinlux were impressed by the results that they saw and themselves received when they went for treatment – lines, pigmentations, and blemishes were replaced by clean, smooth skin. However, they wanted a place that would be more of a haven for those who wanted to take a break from a very stressful world.
“We didn’t want our customers to go through a treatment like they were rushing,” says Dr. Nolido. “We wanted to create a salon that will make them feel relaxed, and not hurry them.”
The four therapists and two board-certified nurses that the Skinlux Aesthetic Center employs and had been trained by a Singapore-based specialist on therapeutic facials and massages certainly exhibit that mixture of grace, patience, and a genuine desire to attend to their client’s needs. Once a customer is ready in her private room, the masseur in charge takes pains to explain each procedure, explaining why it fits her specific desire to remove a pimple or smooth out a wrinkle. The facial that is first administered to clean her face is soothing and pleasant. A floral-like fragrance can even lull you to sleep. Then there is a relaxing massage that removes the tension from your shoulders and neck. A few minutes into the facial and you just want to bask in the pleasure of the sensations.
Prior to the treatment, three dermatologists check the patient’s skin then afterwards recommend the appropriate and suitable treatment and/or facials. They are the only ones allowed in the clinic to do laser treatments.
“We offer the best of both worlds,” says Ms. Go. “We have good machines for facials, weight loss, body contouring – and at the same time, these are complemented by the best kind of organic products from the world.”
Skinlux is the Philippines’ exclusive distributor of cleansers, toners, exfoliants, serums, creams, oils, and other products of Nelly De Vuyst, one of the leading skin care brands in Europe for the past 40 years. This Belgian brand broke ground through its Diadermic Method, which nourishes the oil or cleanser and any other product with potent nano-sized molecules that are rich in active ingredients that prevent or slow down the effects of ageing.
“The Nelly Products are organic and derive their nutrients from plants,” says Dr. Nolido. “The Diadermic method then allows the infusion of these nutrients deep into the skin better than some products available in the market, and not necessarily with even some of the machines. It is important to understand that non-organic treatments can damage the skin’s epidermal layer and remove what protects it. But organic products are basically safe. They have no preservatives that can damage the skin.”
FACIALS AND LASERS
Skinlux’s Hydra-Facial treatment does infuse the patient’s skin with vitamins, and not just cleanse it. This 15-minute procedure that does not require any downtime moisturizes the skin and removes dead skin cells. At the same time, it bathes the new skin with cleansing, hydrating, and moisturizing serums. After one just treatment, the skin shows visible refinement and a light glow. Six more treatments at one treatment each week can totally eradicate fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and acne-prone skin.
The Hydra-Facial treatment is best complemented by the Revlite Laser Therapy which rejuvenates skin appearance, smoothens its texture, evens out its skin tone, and decreases the sizes of pores. This laser therapy aims a precise wavelength of light energy on the condition of the patient, such as pigmentations and other blemishes. It also stimulates the production of collagen, the body nutrient that keeps the skin young and protects it from pollution, toxins, and other harmful elements.
“The Hydra-Facial prepares your skin and the laser therapy targets the pigment and breaks it down,” elaborates Ms. Go. “The pigment then becomes smaller and any pimple on your face dries up. Revlite and the Hydra-Facial are perfect for treating pores, pimples, and pigmentation.”
Another treatment that liberates the skin from the much-dreaded acne is Elos. Acne occurs when a sebaceous oil gland surrounding a hair follicle becomes clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Bacteria growth in this clogged environment causes infection and acne blemishes. The Elos technology uses blue light energies to penetrate the skin to precisely target and destroy the active acne-causing bacteria. At the same time, it slows down excessive sebaceous oil production.
Dr. Nolido says. “Our ELOS Acne Facial uses blue light that can control the gland that produces oil and contains the multiplication of bacteria that can lead to pimples.”
Dr. Nolido says that some of the treatments can show remarkable changes just after one treatment. Others take a couple of weeks. Still, the patient is advised to maintain these changes by undergoing facials every so often.
“Maintenance is key to a good skin,” says Dr. Nolido. “Our therapists really do take the time to find out what your condition needs and recommend the procedure or combination of procedures that will bring out our best side, while curing certain conditions.”
A series of treatments then may be what the skin experts ordered – administered with that particular type of pampering that makes you feel like a princess throughout.
